Childcare Provision for Key Workers

20th March 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

Childcare Provision for Key Workers and children in receipt of an Educational Health Care Plan.

For the next few weeks we are seeking to provide childcare at our school for identified children and those that meet the Government’s Keyworker criteria.  The guidance states that if workers think they fall within the critical categories above, they should confirm with their employer that based on their business continuity arrangements, their specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.

If at any time we are unable to provide care, then we will signpost families to a Child Care Hub in the Local Authority.

Thank you to those parents who contacted the school to express a need for this provision. You will understand that not only do I have a responsibility for your children but also the health and well-being of staff. We are totally committed to supporting essential front line workers, but I would respectfully request that childcare in school be the last resort if there is no other practical alternative.

The fewer children that are in a Child Care setting then the less chance there will be for the virus to spread to staff and children.

Together we all need to do what we can to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The recent scientific evidence on how to limit the spread of the virus is clear.

“If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.”

“Parents should do everything they can to ensure that children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus.”

With the above in mind, staff permitting, we will be opening school as usual on Monday. We will run a normal school day starting at 8.45am with school finishing at 3.15pm.

If after reviewing the latest Government Key Worker list (see attached) and the information above, you still require childcare provision in school, please email with the following information.

If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you do not meet the Government criteria and/or do not need childcare provision at school.

Following receipt of your e-mail you will receive confirmation as soon as possible as to whether we are able to provide the childcare support you have requested for your child.
