 January 2018

Dear Parents/Carers,

Boys Football Tournament

A huge congratulations is in order to the Super Squirrels Heath Boys Football team! They made us so proud last week when they played in the Havering Schools Football Tournament. The boys played in the pouring rain and harsh winds with never faulting enthusiasm and good team spirit. Freddie F, Freddie P, George, Harry, Joshua, Mitchell, Gabrielle, Nathan and Gleb won every game in the preliminary stage of the tournament beating 4 schools! This put them into the quarter final where they won again! It was in the semi-finals where they lost out to St Joseph’s School who went on to win in the final.

We would like to say a special thank you to our parent helper dads: Mr Petherick, Mr Gotobe and Mr Smith who drove the boys’ success at the tournament. Thank you also to our lovely parent supporters who whooped and cheered despite the rain. Last but not least, thanks to Mr Leslie for all your hard work in preparing the team.

A photo of the boys is available to view on the School Website under the Parents Tab and then school photos.

Art Competition

Earlier this year The Brewery team collaborated with Made Public, a local community initiative, to collectively make Romford a better place to live, work, socialise and shop.

The project 'Colour in Romford' is a public art project that aimed to show people that art is for everyone whilst brightening up, bringing life to the town and also engaging young people in the local community.

At Squirrels Heath Junior, we were lucky enough to be a part of the project and design our own Peregrine Falcon as one often can often be spotted perching on the top of the old Brewery chimney.

Many of the children's works of art have now been framed upstairs in the Brewery by the cinema!

Well done to everyone who was involved. We came 2nd in the competition and received a bundle of Art resources.

Orange Week

The children have been overwhelmed by your generosity this week and are very grateful for your donations of orange juice and money.  The orange snack stall has been a sell-out everyday so far and the pupils are really enjoying raising money for Muscular Dystrophy UK.  The competition deadline is Friday 2nd February and winners will be announced in celebration assembly the following week.   We will update you on the final total raised next week. Once again thank you so much for all your support.

The School Council and Mrs Lucke

Mobile Phones

Unfortunately, we have had a lot of children starting to bring mobile phones into school. Children should only bring mobile phones to school if they make their own way to and from school. If you would like your child to bring their phone to school please complete a mobile phone consent form which can be collected from the school office or a member of staff at the gate. All phones that are brought into school must be handed in to a member of staff on the front or back gate each morning in an envelope clearly marked with their name.

P.E. Kit

We still have a number of children who do not have their P.E. kits in school. Unfortunately we only have a very limited amount of spare P.E. kit in school so children have to miss their P.E. lessons due to not having the correct kit.  In one class alone we had six children without PE kits! Please therefore ensure that your child’s P.E. kit remains in school during term time and is only taken home during the holidays for washing. If this becomes a persistent problem, we may contact parents to discuss the situation further.
