Dear Parents/Carers,

Primary Science Quality Mark

We are very pleased to announce that we have been successful in our application for the Primary Science Quality Mark and have obtained the Guilt award. This is an award given to schools which are able to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in Science teaching, learning and leadership. In order to be successful, schools must undertake an initial audit followed by targeted improvements and reflection.

On behalf of the school community I would like to thank Mr Hackett and Mr Fowles for their commitment and dedication to raising the profile of Science throughout the school and engaging both pupils and staff. The children have really taken this on board and there is now a buzz about the subject that extends learning beyond the classroom.

For those of you who read the Romford Recorder, look out for an article and photograph about the award in this week’s edition.

School Summer Fete

It is not long until our School Summer Fete which is taking place on Saturday 22 June. In preparation for this, we are inviting pupils to take part in our Decorate-A-Jar competition. Children are encouraged to recycle jars or containers from home and decorate them according to a summer theme. The jars should then be filled with contents such as sweets, chocolates, hair accessories etc. All jars will be sold at the Summer Fete. Prizes will be given to the two best decorated jars in each year group and will be presented in the school assembly on Friday 28th June.

We would also be grateful for any donations to our bottle tombola. These may be bottles of soft drink, bubble bath or alcohol.

Children may hand in their jars and bottles to members of staff on the school gate during the weeks beginning the 10th and the 17th of June.

In appreciation for everyone’s support, we will be having a non-uniform day on Monday 17th June.

The Summer Fete is our biggest fundraising event in the school year. This year we hope to raise money to make further improvements to our outdoor space including the quad area and main playground. These improvements would greatly enhance both the school environment and provide additional learning opportunities for the children. Your support, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Baby News

We are happy to announce that both Mrs Hammel and Mrs Chesnutt are expecting a new addition to their families this autumn. We wish them well with the remainder of their pregnancies.

Medical Tracker

We have now introduced a new system for tracking and reporting any head bumps and injuries in school called Medical Tracker. Please rest assured that if your child receives a bump to the head we will still ring you to inform you but instead of them bringing home a head bump letter you will now receive an e-mail with the details. We hope you will agree that this is a much more efficient way to communicate.

Winning House this half term

Well done to Weir house who are the winning team in our house point race this half term. All children in Weir house are invited to come to school in their home clothes on Monday 3rd June. Pupils in all other houses must come to school in their school uniform.

Attendance

As you know, we track school attendance quite closely. Last week our whole school attendance was 98%, with four classes achieving 100%. This is a fantastic result! Thank you for your support in ensuring that children are in school every day.

Unfortunately, we still have a few children coming in after the register is taken at 8:50. We therefore ask that you allow adequate time to travel to school. Also, don’t forget that children are allowed into class at 8:30 each morning. This is an ideal opportunity for children to receive additional support from staff with anything that they may be struggling with.

sQuid

Just a polite reminder to ensure that your child’s sQuid account is regularly topped up. If your account falls into arrears of £4.40 or more we will not be able to allow your child to choose a school dinner and you will be required to provide a packed lunch for your child until the account is topped up.

P.E. Kit

Unfortunately, there are still a number of children who do not have a P.E. kit in school.   As you can appreciate, this causes a great deal of disruption to P.E. lessons as well as to staff in the office. The Half Term holiday will be an ideal opportunity to ensure that any missing items of kit are replaced and that your child’s name is clearly marked in each item.

Lost Property

We have a lot of Lost Property in our box. If your child has misplaced any uniform please come into the office foyer to check if it is in the box.  Please may we ask you to mark all your child’s uniform clearly with their name so that if they do mislay any items they can be returned to them promptly. Any items still remaining in the Lost Property box at the end of term will be given to charity.
