Dear Parents/Carers,

Ofsted Monitoring Visit

In early May, an Ofsted inspector visited the school to conduct a monitoring visit. Monitoring visits usually take place six to eight months following an Ofsted inspection to judge whether or not a school is taking appropriate action towards becoming a “good” school.
I am happy to report that the inspector was pleased with the school’s progress. He stated that the actions that leaders have taken are having a noticeable impact and that the capacity to drive improvement is strong. Most notably, the inspector identified that our professional development programme for teachers and teaching assistants has helped to ensure that there is greater consistency across the school in terms of both the quality of teaching and pupil progress. He also noted that the school uses assessment data well to identify and support those who are falling behind as well as the more able.
A copy of the report is attached and I would encourage you to take the time to read it. The report will also be available on the Ofsted website late next week.
For school leaders the report is an affirmation that we are on the right path and provides us with
the encouragement we need to continue on our journey. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all school staff and governors for their commitment and dedication thus far. I’d also like to thank parents and carers for your patience and support and pupils for their hard work in striving to meet their individual targets. It has truly been a team effort!
Sadly as this was a monitoring visit, our Ofsted category won’t change. We expect another full inspection sometime in 2018.
SATs

Also in May, our Year 6 pupils completed their SATs tests in Reading, Maths, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. Needless to say the tests were quite challenging but I’m sure that the

pupils’ hard work will pay off. Whatever happens, we are very proud of them. Their desire to succeed has been a pleasure to witness and an inspiration to us all. We expect to receive the results in early July.
Sports Day

Unfortunately I do not have any further news to report about use of Balgores field. Thankfully, Frances Bardsley Secondary School have once again offered us use of their field for our Sports Day. Our Sports Day will therefore take place in the afternoon of Monday 13th July. Let’s hope that the weather is kind to us.
Clubs

May we remind you that if your child is unable to attend a club, which they are enrolled in, to please always ensure that the club leader is informed. This helps us with our safeguarding procedures as when children are absent from an after school club, it is the responsibility of school staff to find out where they are. Please help us to ensure that our systems are as efficient and effective as they can be to keep children safe.

A copy of the club timetable has been sent out via parentmail, is available on our school website www.shj.havering.sch.uk and is on display on our boards at the front and back of school. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

P.E. Kit

We would also like to remind you that children must keep their full P.E. kit in school. Every day we have a number of children unable to take part in P.E. lessons because they do not have their kit in school. This means that pupils miss out on a vital part of the school curriculum. If pupils take their kit home at the end of an after school club, they must ensure that it is in school the next day.
Thank you.

Polling Day

A polite reminder that the school will be closed for pupils on Thursday 8th June as it is being used as a polling station for the national election. I apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
