Newsletter April 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

Science Open Morning

We had a number of parents attend our Science Open Morning on Wednesday 13th of March. Thank you to those parents who were able to come along. We received a lot of positive feedback about the event both from parents and from pupils.

I would also like to thank Mr Hackett and Mr Fowles not only for organising the event but also for the interest and enthusiasm they have generated in school about Science. I am regularly stopped by children who are eager to tell me about something new that have learned in class or found out about at home and I cannot help but be impressed by their general knowledge and understanding! I am sure that we have some future scientists in the making!

Road Safety

You may have noticed groups of our pupils outside the school on Wednesday mornings. They have been reminding drivers about road safety outside the school every Wednesday in March. Unfortunately, we are still having cases of some parents stopping in the middle of the road to drop their children off or parking on the zig zag lines in front of the school. If you must drive your child to school, please leave a little earlier and park further afield to avoid congestion in Salisbury Road and minimise the risk of one of our children getting hurt.

Red Nose Day

Thank you to those who took part in the hat making competition and who donated to the charity. Some of the hats were really impressive and showed great artistic talent!

The event raised a total of £119.36. We would like to express a special thank you to Mrs Lucke and the Student Council for organising the event.

Healthy Snack Stall

Thank you so much for all your kind donations to our Healthy Snack Stall.  The stall has been very popular and has been run by Mrs Lucke, our School Council and a few other willing volunteers. So far the children have raised £162.58 towards their target of £1000 for some additional playground resources and further playground improvements.

Premier Sports Clubs for Summer Term

You can now book on to the Premier clubs starting in the Summer term. Please visit their website www.premier-education.com or call 01953 499040 to book your child's place.

Sport

Well done to the boys’ football team for a great game against Harold Wood Primary. Unfortunately, we lost 3:1 and have been knocked out of the cup but we really have had a great season and stayed in the tournament as far as the quarter finals. Thank you boys for your effort, enthusiasm, sportsmanship and teamwork. You represented the school well and we are all extremely proud of you!

We would like to share some feedback from Lizzy Allen at the Sports Collective which we received following the match:

Just wanted to say what a lovely school Squirrels Heath is. The players were fantastic and you could see the love and passion they have for football. The parents and teachers were amazing too. I refereed the whole game and it was a great atmosphere. The parents helping out were polite, respectful and very enthusiastic. A big thank you to Squirrels Heath for an amazing experience and thank you Mrs King for making the extra effort with biscuits and juice after the game’.

Well done to everyone involved, including all the adults who assisted the boys at various matches and Mrs King and Mr Leslie.

sQuid

Just a polite reminder to ensure that your child’s sQuid account is regularly topped up. If your account falls into arrears of £4.40 or more we will not be able to allow your child to choose a school dinner and you will be required to provide a packed lunch for your child until the account is topped up.

Class Photos

The children will be having their class photographs taken on Wednesday 10th April. All children must wear their full school uniform including their Red sweatshirt / cardigan for the photo.

P.E. Kit

Unfortunately, there are still a number of children who do not have a P.E. kit in school. Last week in school a total of 40 children were sent to the office to borrow a kit.  As you can appreciate, this causes a great deal of disruption to lessons as well as to staff in the office. The Easter holidays may be a good time to ensure that any missing items of kit are replaced. We would greatly appreciate your support with this.
